T-Mobile stops Google Voice video chat block

Remember our post last week that talked about whether T-Mobile was intentionally blocking Google’s voice and video chat over the 3G/4G network, with smartphones and tablets receiving preferential treatment? Well, Phandroid has a story where Nexus S users claim that Google’s voice and video chat is no longer restricted to a Wi-Fi connection, which means they work just fine over T-Mobile’s cellular network. Could this be due to the introduction of the myTouch 4G Slide earlier this morning, where said smartphone boasts of a front-facing camera that caters for “T-Mobile Video Chat powered by Qik”? Coincidence, this is not.

There is no official comment from T-Mobile at the moment, but it makes perfect sense should one video service receive T-Mobile’s blessing, so should Google’s. For owners of a Nexus S (or other smartphone with version 1.3 of the Google Talk app) that are connected to T-Mobile, do let us know whether voice and video chat plays nice on your phone by shooting us a comment.
